Chapter 385 385: The Wound on Reesi's Face, News of Mona's Father
Special Investigation Team, office area.
Reesi's injuries on her face weren't serious, and she even tried to cover them up with makeup. Unless someone observed carefully, ordinary people couldn't notice the marks on Reesi's face.
But there were no ordinary people in the Special Investigation Team, and just like Mona, Michelle, and Luo An, they quickly noticed the makeup on Reesi's face.
Mona quickly moved her chair closer to Reesi, her face full of concern, asking:
"What happened? What did you encounter last night?"
Meanwhile, Michelle tried to pull Reesi to sit down on a chair, but Reesi hastily stepped back to avoid Michelle's hand, that's when Mona and Michelle noticed that Reesi's arm was also slightly injured.
"Hehe…"
Seeing Luo An, Mona, and Michelle all focusing their attention on her, Reesi smiled awkwardly:
"It's nothing, it's nothing. I just bumped into something while driving last night, I'll be fine after a day's rest."
"Your excuse sounds as lame as stumbling on the road by accident."
Luo An poured a cup of coffee for Reesi and said with a laugh:
"I remember you left with Chenier last night... You didn't take a swing at Chenier, did you?"
Luo An didn't know about Chenier's preferences, but because of working in the International Business Department, Chenier's senses were very sharp.
If Reesi really took advantage of Chenier being slightly inebriated last night, it's indeed possible that Chenier could have instinctively fought back.
"It wasn't Chenier."
Reesi shook her head repeatedly. In interactions with the same sex, she always took the dominant role. After knowing about Chenier's impressive performance in the warehouse, she simply compared their skills and realized she was highly unlikely to win against her.
Chenier's personality is also quite strong. It might end up in a fight over dominance, and since Reesi could not overpower the other and didn't want to be submissive, she lost interest in Chenier.
Seeing the curiosity in the eyes of Luo An, Mona, and Michelle, insisting on knowing the reasons, Reesi twitched her mouth corners, silent for a few seconds, then whispered:
"...Alright, it was an accident."
Reesi mentioned that she encountered a college girl from a university in Los Angeles, studying performing arts, in a bar last night.
Experienced Reesi quickly went back with her to her university dormitory, planning to relive the college days.
In the dormitory, Reesi and the college girl played games common in the performing arts, but the other's acting was too convincing, leading to a misinterpretation by the roommate who knew some self-defense and martial arts techniques. Under the influence of alcohol and moments of distraction, Reesi wasn't able to react in time.
"…"
Luo An, Mona, and Michelle all rolled their eyes in unison, turned around and left, leaving Reesi on the side, selectively ignoring Reesi's call for help regarding some minor issues that followed.
The day in the Special Investigation Team passed with the usual ruckus until the end of work. The next two days were Saturday and Sunday, rest days, Michelle did the usual, buying some fast food and reading at home.
Reesi went straight to the bar, even if her right arm wasn't convenient, it didn't suppress her restless heart, after all, she still had her left arm.
These days, because of being busy with cases, Mona's rented apartment remained uncleaned. She drove ahead in her small sedan to go home, while Luo An was the last to leave the Special Investigation Team, using the office SUV to head to a large supermarket to buy groceries.
Up to now in this world, Luo An had yet to try hot pot and planned to have a feast tonight to satisfy his craving.
The supermarket Luo An was headed to was a large membership supermarket in Los Angeles. The membership was not something Luo An applied for actively but was a small convenient perk he obtained after the explosion case involving the First Lady, similar to lifelong discount or free hotel rooms.
The supermarket had a rich selection of meat and seafood, Luo An bought a lot.
The variety of vegetables was not few, but also not plenty, Luo An only picked some types that Mona usually liked.
After buying a two-flavor hot pot, Luo An drove to a Chinatown store and bought two types of hot pot bases, one spicy and one non-spicy.
They still had some entertainment activities after dinner, eating too spicy might not be very convenient.
In the rental house, Mona looked at the bubbling split hot pot and a pile of ingredients, tilting her head in confusion:
"Is this... hot pot?"
"Yes, have you had it before?"
"I tried it once in Chinatown during college with some classmates, it was really spicy."
As Mona mentioned this, her face showed a hint of lingering fear:
"My stomach was upset for a long time after eating it."
"So today, I made two flavors, you can have the non-spicy one."
Luo An adjusted the dipping sauce and handed it to Mona, then picked a piece of meat from the non-spicy section and placed it into Mona's bowl.
After taking a bite, Mona's eyes lit up:
"It's not spicy, and it actually tastes pretty good."
"Here, try some of the seafood I prepared."
"OK."
Naturally, drinking red wine isn't suited for hot pot, so Luo An and Mona chatted while drinking beer. During that time, Mona also tried a few bites from the spicy pot, which turned her face red, increased her heartbeat, leaving Luo An parched.
After finishing the hot pot, the two cleared the table and opened the windows to air out the smell. Luo An and Mona sat on the couch, holding each other, quietly resting and watching the TV show airing.
CRACK—
Suddenly, Mona caught a wandering hand on her own body and threw Luo An a glare.
Luo An chuckled, just about to turn up the volume of the TV program, when Reesi suddenly got up from his embrace and spoke seriously to Luo An:
"Luo An, I received a message earlier that my father will likely return to the federation in about a month."
"..."
Hearing this, Luo An's restless heart instantly cooled off, and he was puzzled:
"I remember you saying before that your father would return to the federation in six months?"
Back then, Luo An and Mona were still in New York, and it has only been two and a half months since.
"He didn't tell me why he's returning earlier."
Mona shook her head, she didn't know what the underlying reasons were. She discussed this with Luo An to ask what she should do.
Hardly ever seeing each other, her mother died of loneliness, yet her father had not missed sending her money regularly for years, allowing her to attend college... These things made Mona's feelings towards her father very complex, unsure of how to face him.
Luo An stretched out his hand and pulled Mona back into his embrace, gently comforting her while his expression was a bit odd.
Having lived two lifetimes, this was the first time Luo An had to face a girlfriend's father, it was natural to feel nervous, not just nervous but also quite complicated in emotions.
Because of this matter, both Luo An and Mona lost interest tonight; they lay in bed holding each other and quietly slept through the night.
The next day, Saturday, seeing Mona's mood was down, her spirits low during morning routines, Luo An directly took her to the Los Angeles Disneyland, toured all the areas from opening to closing, and had a blast all day.
In the evening, after watching a movie in the cinema, they proceeded to a restaurant Luo An had previously booked, resting and enjoying the meal.
A few hours later, in the apartment under the night sky, Mona pushed Luo An down on the sofa, grabbed the collar of his shirt, tilted her head up while eying downward, and asked arrogantly:
"Spill it, what crime did you commit?"
Looking at his handcuffed hands, Luo An grinned.
What do you think?
